I’m back on American soil, and enjoying the familiarity of being home. One new thing though- discovering that KFC has all you can eat buffets at some of its locations. This is mind boggling to me. Firstly because all you can eat fried chicken should NEVER be allowed into my life. That is unnecessary to say the least. My addiction to fried chicken does not need to advance to the all you can eat levels. But, alas- it has. And it’s lovely. Possibly the best thing you can spend $8 on… but I’d be open to hearing other people’s thoughts on that one. Continue reading “KFC Buffet, USA”
As a confessed indoor cat, some of my favorite places to go are cafes and coffee shops. And the occasional bar. One of the many many reasons I fell in love with Arequipa was that it had not only a fantastic coffee shop, but also one of the best cafes I’ve been to in my life. And though both deserve their own blog posts in my heart, in real life we can talk about how wonderful they are together. First up, as happens most days- coffee. So, when I say that almost every flat surface in Valparaiso was covered in grafitti or art, I bet stairways were not the first things to pop into your head. But what are staircases if not a collection of small flat surfaces. So I’m gonna take a minute to talk about our very real life version of ‘chutes and ladders’… stairs and funiculars. Continue reading “Stairs and Funiculars, Chile”
Though Berlin will always hold a special place in my street art loving heart, Valparaiso is coming pretty close. I’ve really been enjoying walking around and seeing all the beautiful artwork in the city. Continue reading “Street Art, Chile”
When people ask me why I decided to come to Chile there are two main reasons: (other than the fact that it’s shaped like linguini and I love pasta.)
1. The rescue of the Chilean miners in 2010 is, in my opinion, one of the greatest events to happen in my lifetime. Perhaps the greatest.
2. My love of the Arsenal football team, and in particular the spectacular play of Alexis Sanchez.
It is because of this love for Alexis that I ended up in his hometown, Tocopilla. Continue reading “Alexis Sanchez, Chile”
In La Serena, there is a beautiful Japanese Garden. While usually these are very peaceful places, my time there took a distinctively exciting turn. Because a dog got into the garden. Continue reading “Japanese Garden, Chile”
So, here I am in Arequipa, Peru. Due to some unforseen travel fails… I’ve been here for longer than expected. However. Thank goodness I got stuck here. It’s a beautiful city, full of things to do and places to see. If I hadn’t lost my debit card, I think I would have passed through too quickly, and missed some really great things. First up on the blog… the monasteries. Continue reading “Monestario, Peru”
I had been planning to write something else about Peru before I got to Machu Picchu. But, once I saw it there was no putting it off. Spectacular. Continue reading “Machu Picchu, Peru”
I was staying in a phenomenal hostel in Domincal, Costa Rica. The hostel is right on the beach, super laid back… and all open air. It feels a little like camping, but with way nicer amenities than a tent. Continue reading “Iguana Drama, Costa Rica”
Costa Rica has been at the top of my list of places I wanted to go for so long, it had become almost mythical in my mind. This amazing place where beaches were lined by jungle. Monkeys hung out and were friendly. All the adventure you could want, which for me was a hammock on the beach. Continue reading “Pura Vida, Costa Rica”
